How a wedding gift registry works in Australia
Direct answer. A wedding gift registry is a list of what a couple would like as gifts, which guests can see before they buy. Vereli's registry is a link-out registry: you add what you'd love, link to wherever you'd like to buy it, and share one link with your guests. You buy wherever you like. It's a clearer place to point people, instead of the group chat. Vereli does not hold any money and is not part of the purchase itself.

What is a wedding gift registry?
A gift registry is simply a shared list. A couple names items, experiences or funds they'd welcome as wedding gifts, and guests pick from the list instead of guessing. In Australia, couples commonly set one up through a department store, a homewares retailer, or an online-only registry tool, and then share the link in their invitation or on a wedding website.
This page is about the gift registry, not the government marriage registry (the office that records your marriage after the ceremony). If you're looking for that, see our Notice of Intended Marriage guide.
How Vereli's registry works
Vereli's own registry is link-out only:
- You add what you'd love, with a link to wherever you'd actually like to buy it: a retailer, a maker's own shop, an experience, or a fund.
- You share one link with your guests, instead of spreading gift ideas across a group chat or a wedding website nobody checks.
- You buy wherever you like. Vereli isn't the shop and isn't part of the purchase. It's a clearer place to point people.
Vereli doesn't hold any money for a gift, and there's no payment step inside Vereli itself. If an item's link ever looks like it's asking a guest to pay Vereli directly, or to send money by bank transfer, gift card or a link in a message, that's not how a Vereli registry works. Tell us and we'll look at it.
Sharing it with guests
Once you publish your registry, you get a link and a QR code made from that same link, so you can put it on a printed card or share it digitally. If you ever unpublish your registry, the link and code stop working: a guest who opens an old printed card afterwards will see a page that says it isn't there any more, not your gift list.
If you don't publish it
An unpublished registry isn't shared with anyone, and it isn't kept forever: if you never publish it, it's deleted 12 months after your wedding date (or 12 months after you last changed it, if you didn't give a date). A registry you have published isn't deleted automatically. You can delete yours at any time, and doing so removes the registry, every gift on it and your guest link straight away; it can't be undone.
