3 musicians and DJs for a wedding in the Southern Highlands

Highlights. A Highlands wedding often runs from a garden ceremony into a long evening, and the music carries it. Here are three musicians, bands and DJs who play Southern Highlands weddings, each with a different format. We list them in no particular order.

What we mean by "a wedding in the Southern Highlands"

We mean a ceremony and reception anywhere in the Highlands, from Bowral and Berrima to the surrounding estates. All three acts travel in, so ask about travel costs.

The three

Ben Fox Band, Sydney

Ben Fox Band

Ben is a Sydney wedding singer and DJ who offers one musician for your whole event. He covers live acoustic music, DJ sets and full band performances across Sydney, the Hunter Valley, the Southern Highlands and greater NSW.

He plays from the moment guests arrive, through the ceremony and canapes, then switches to party mode with a DJ, a live band, or both. The most popular option is solo acoustic plus DJ, and you can step up to a trio or quartet with bass and drums. He arrives two hours before the ceremony to set up the PA, lighting and gear.

Song requests are welcome, and he is happy to learn new songs for formal moments such as your entrance, first dance, parent dances and a farewell song. He helps with planning along the way, and you can hear him in videos and audio before you enquire.

A good fit if you want one performer for the ceremony, drinks and dance floor.

"I don’t know how he does it but kept the amazing vibes going all the way through with his beautiful accoustic music for our ceremony, garden party and canape hour then stepped it up from our first dance through to the very last song, there wasn’t a single person that could resist the dance floor with Ben playing."

Scissors Paper Rock, Wollongong and the Illawarra

Scissors Paper Rock

Scissors Paper Rock is an energetic three-piece cover band based in Wollongong, playing weddings, parties and events across the Illawarra, Kiama, Gerringong, Bowral, Berrima, Milton Park, the Southern Highlands and the Macarthur region. John is on lead vocals and guitar (and bagpipes), Cav is on drums, and Rossco plays bass and piano and sings backing vocals.

They are best known for party music, with a tight mix of old and new covers, mixups and medleys from artists such as James Brown, Pearl Jam, Jet, Powderfinger, Lorde and Pharrell Williams. They welcome song requests and will learn new ones for your day.

They bring their own instruments, LED stage lighting and a PA system, which can also be used for speeches. If you want something calmer earlier in the day, they can add acoustic guitar, a solo vocalist, jazzy piano, strings or the bagpipes for your ceremony, so you do not have to book separate acts.

A good fit if you want a live three-piece band and want to see the line-up and packages first.

"They brought all their lights and sound equipment with them so everything looked awesome. And their songs were so good. It was easy. I didn’t have to do a thing and the dance floor was packed all night!"

Unity Entertainment, Sydney

Unity Entertainment

Unity Entertainment is a boutique wedding DJ and MC business run by Alex Pisani, its founder and lead DJ and MC. Alex has more than ten years in the Sydney wedding industry, is a qualified wedding MC, and works as a solo operator who limits his bookings each year so every couple gets personal attention.

His services cover ceremony music, cocktail-hour music, reception DJing and MC work, with speakers, party lighting and DJ gear included. He serves Sydney and much of NSW, including the Hunter Valley, the Blue Mountains, the Southern Highlands, the South Coast and Wollongong.

He guides couples through the planning with a video consultation, a personal client folder, a master run sheet and music curation, and coordinates directly with your venue and other suppliers. Packages include a standard five-hour performance, and tools and resources help you plan.

A good fit if you want a DJ and MC together who works across the Highlands.

"We couldn’t have asked for a better DJ and MC for our wedding! Alex Pisani did an incredible job from start to finish. He kept the night flowing perfectly, read the crowd really well, and had everyone up dancing and having a great time."

Before you book

Questions worth asking any musician or DJ:

  • What do you need from the venue (power, space, sound limits and finish time)?
  • Can we give you a must-play and a do-not-play list?
  • How do you handle breaks, and what plays while you pause?
  • Who is the MC, and do you check the run sheet with our other vendors?
  • What is your plan if a band member or the equipment fails on the day?
  • What do you charge to travel to our venue?

We chose these acts from public information: each plays weddings in the Southern Highlands and has positive reviews. Nobody pays to be included, and we have not tested anyone's services.
