The guest count drives the venue, food and drink, hire and stationery. A rough number now is worth more than an exact one later.

4. Get quotes on the same terms

5. Ask what the deposit covers

Before you pay, ask in writing what the deposit covers and what happens if either side cancels. Pay by card where you can.

6. Keep a buffer
